Random Philosophy Thoughts
So, I presented an idea about how "God" could actually mean mother nature, then Mark and Keith both had equally logical ideas about how the same reading could not mean this but instead mean that. So I want to express how frustrating it is to think about all this, come up with ideas listen to other peoples ideas, think about what was known and not known in there time, think about what was popular/accepted thoughts as opposed to unpopular/forbidden thoughts at that time, discuss all our thoughts about their thoughts, change our thoughts, talk about our changed thoughts, then in the end, not even know if we are right about those thoughts, or more simply, close to what the actual thoughts were. What the flip???

Yeah, I feel the same way. I am so conflicted while reading his book because I have no clue what Descartes is really trying to convey to the reader. Is it that he is really trying to prove God's existence? Does God represent something else? The most frustrating part is that we will never know what he was thinking. Sometimes I don't even know what I think because there are so many interpretations of his book that could be made.
It really is confusing, any idea (god or mother nature) fits the concept Descartes is trying to explain. However I believe "concept" and "idea" are unique from everyone else's interpretation. This makes a full circle getting back to the discussion in class, are you thinking what i'm thinking and if so is it the same as how i see it ...... you get my point. descartes is confusion
I completley agree. It's really annoying when your set on one idea, and just get going with it, you have it all figured out in your head and then comes this other opposing idea....now what? do start all over and try and work with the new idea and incorporate it into the old one? Or do you stick with what you already believe and are familiar with? GRRR!! Its like learning how to tie your shoes with the "loop-swoop-and-pull" method, then being told that the better and easier way is to do "bunny ears"...Do you re-learn the "easy" way, or just stick with what you already have conquered?! Definately frustrating...
How right you are my friend. Interperetation is everything, and with phylosphy, all we have is our interperetations of these writings. Will we ever know whether Descartes truly belives in God or believes mother natures is God? No, but his concepts on these subjects help with critical thinking which is defintiely a plus.
